Kathleen Sheppard

Feb. 11, 1925 — Jan. 27, 2015

 

Kathleen Sheppard, 89, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Kathleen was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Davidson Sr. and Myrtle Neece Davidson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Sheppard; two sisters, Eileen Sutton and Maxine Sloan; one sister-in-law, Donna Davidson; four brothers-in-law, Edward Sloan, Vernon Sutton, Charles Austin I and Cecil Whitley; and two nephews.

Kathleen was a graduate of Coal Grove High School, a former employee of Sylvania, retired as a selector from Owens-Illinois Glass Co. and a member of South Point First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by two sisters, Delores Whitley and Elizabeth Austin, both of South Point; three brothers, James (Marilyn) Davidson, Robert Lee Davidson Jr. and Ronald (Kathryn) Davidson, all of South Point; many nieces and nephews; wonderful friends; and four special caregivers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point with pastor Charles Lane, pastor Robert Carter and Jerry Greenslait officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mark Christy

April 14, 1959 — Jan. 28, 2015

 

Mark Duane Christy, 55, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Conway Medical Center in Conway, South Carolina. He was born April 14, 1959, in Portsmouth, a son of the late James H. and Ada Mineer Christy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Rick Christy.

Mr. Christy is survived by his wife, Lisa Hammond Christy; two children, Shane Anthony Christy and Scott Allyn Christy and his wife, Jennifer, all of Conway; two brothers, Michael “Mick” Christy, of Ohio, and Kenton “Kenny” Christy, of Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Nataly, Kaelah and Maddilyn.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. today at Watson Funeral Services Chapel in Conway.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Ruby Sauter

Nov. 29, 1929 — Jan. 16, 2015

 

Ruby Mae Myers Burton Sauter, 85, of Florence, Oregon, formerly of Ironton, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, in Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence. Mrs. Sauter was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Pageton, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Fred R. and Martha Mae Cochran Myers. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Sauter.

Ruby was raised on a farm in Lawrence County and was a 1948 graduate of Coal Grove High School. Ruby was a homemaker. In addition to being a devoted mother, she loved rose gardening, flower gardening, music, dancing, entertaining, cooking, traveling and helping others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jack, George, Irene, Edna, Fred Jr., Garnet and John.

She is survived by two sons, James W. Burton and Stephen L. Burton, both of Florence; grandson, Justin C. (Michelle) Burton, of Baltimore, Maryland; great-granddaughter, MaKayla Burton, of Baltimore; sister, Kathryn Huff, of Ironton; the father of her children, Remy Burton, of South Point; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life service will be at noon Saturday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Lonzo Bryant

Lonzo Bryant, 83, Willow Wood, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, in Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. Nina Anderson, 94, of Ironton, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer–Monroe Funeral Home.

Betty Guthrie

Jan. 7, 1928 — Jan. 27, 2015

 

Betty Downing Thimmes Guthrie, 87, of Ironton, died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at her home. Born in Williamsburg on Jan. 7, 1928, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Margery Lyle Downing, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ironton and she taught in the Ironton school system.

She was preceded by her husbands, Walter F. Thimmes and Raymond Guthrie; one daughter, Marianne (Sissy) Thimmes Crance; two sons, Gary Thimmes and Mark Thimmes; and one granddaughter, Ashley Catherine Crance.

Survivors include grandchildren, Matthew (Elizabeth) Crance, Ryan (Sara) Crance and Greg (Jamie) Thimmes; great-grandchildren, Austin Crance, Béla Elizabeth Crance, Reese Crance, Ashley Crance, Greyson Crance, Ryder Guthrie and Nicholas Thimmes; stepchildren, Randy Guthrie and Cheryl Wu; and step grandchildren, Ryan Guthrie, Erica Guthrie and Rick Crance.

A memorial service of life will be at noon Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironton. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Graveside committal will be in Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Jan Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the First Presbyterian Church 201 N.
