Big starts lead to early finishes for the St. Joseph Female Flyers.

St. Joseph built a commanding 24-point halftime lead en route to a 58-40 rout of the New Boston Lady Tigers on Monday.

“We really played well early and got a big lead and that allowed us to rest some of our starters and get some of our young girls some playing time,” said Female Flyers’ coach Nick Miller.

Hannah Miller had 22 points and four assists for the Female Flyers (13-4). Lynsey Booker added 12 points and five steals, Amber Neal scored 12 points and Bri Bridges had 8 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Alley Hamilton scored 19 points and Mariah Buckley had 15 for New Boston.

Neal scored 10 points in the first quarter to ignite the fast start and Miller added 7 points for a 21-9 lead. Hamilton had 5 points for the Lady Tigers.

In the second quarter, Miller got 8 points and Bridges scored 5 points as the lead grew to 42-16 at the break.

Miller scored 7 more points as the Female Flyers led by as many a 30 points in the third quarter before coach Miller emptied his bench.

Buckley scored 7 points and Hamilton 5 as New Boston outscored the Female Flyers 16-4 in the fourth quarter.

The Female Flyers hit 24 of 54 shots for 44 percent including 19 of 36 from 2-point range for 53 percent.

St. Joseph plays at Russell, Ky., on Wednesday with a two-quarter jayvee game at 6:30 p.m.
