OAK HILL — Fortunately, Caitlyn Stone has a cell phone so that she won’t run up her long distance charges.

Stone was dialing long distance Monday as she hit seven 3-point goals and scored 25 points to help spark the Fairland Lady Dragons to a 59-26 rout of the Oak Hill Lady Oaks.

Fairland (14-3) needed Stone’s offensive output after getting off to a slow start.

Stone scored all of 25 over the second and third quarters with seven 3-pointers. Fairland was 8 of 16 from behind the arc with Stone making seven.

Kelsey Riley added 11 points and Mackenzie Riley grabbed nine rebounds.

“We guarded them well and we need to do that with the way we started the game turning the ball over and missing shots,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“We started off bad and we gave up two 3-pointers and that’s a big part of their offense. But we played good defense and Caitlyn shot the ball really well and that was the difference.”

Oak Hill (10-9) led 7-4 with 3:05 lead in the first quarter but Kelsey Riley scored 6 points as Fairland rallied to take an 8-7 lead.

The Lady Dragons committed nine of their 19 turnovers in the first quarter.

After falling behind, the Lady Dragons outscored Oak Hill 22-2 the rest of the half as the Lady Oaks went 13:10 without a field goal.

Stone buried four 3-pointers in the second quarter as she exploded for 14 points and Fairland built a 26-9 halftime lead.

“We started taking better care of the ball and we continued to play defense the whole game,” said Buchanan.

Stone knocked down three more 3-pointers as she scored 11 points in the third quarter and the Lady Dragons extended their lead to an insurmountable 50-19.

Fairland visits Gallipolis on Thursday and face South Webster at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Tackett Body Shop Shootout at Ironton.
