Betty Bond

Betty Rosalie Bond, 84, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at a local health care facility. The Lawrence County native was born June 25, 1930, a daughter of the late Douglas Sr. and Melvina Smith Abner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Bond, who passed away May 28, 1989.

Mrs. Bond attended Dismal Hollow Schoolhouse, was a homemaker and attended the Church of Christ on 10th and Vine streets in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas Abner, Jr., George Abner and Ernie Abner; two sisters, Julia Cochran and Virginia Dale Abner; a granddaughter, Melissa Sue Cecil; and a son-in-law, Joseph “Buttons” Bailey.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Bailey, Pamela (Danny) Gibbs and Joyce Cecil, all of Ironton; two sons, Eddie Bond and Phillip (Tanya) Bond, both of Ironton;

three sisters, Gloria Bond, of Ironton, Flora Jane Large, of Marion and Gladys Miller, of Bakersfield, California; two brothers, James Abner and Lawrence Abner, both of West Virginia; 15 grandchildren, Brandi (Lowell) Long, of Findlay, Jimmy Bailey, Eddie Ray Bailey, Chris (Leanna) Cecil, Jeremy (LaDonna) Cecil, Scott Cecil, Candice Gibbs, Danny Lee (Holly) Gibbs, Jenny Gibbs, Andy (Amber) Bond, Justin Bond, Summer Bond, Tyler Bond, all of Ironton, Jessica Bond and Ryan Bond, both of Portsmouth; 15 great grandchildren, Faith Long and Lexi Long, Josh Cecil, Caleb Cecil, Sarah Cecil, Addisyn Cecil, Rylan Cecil, Katelyn Cecil, Chasity Cecil, Lakyn Cecil, Austin Gibbs, Kandie Bond and Harmony Bond, Tiffany Akers and Trace Akers.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Fealden Ruggles Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery and visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Andy Bond, Chris Cecil, Jeremy Cecil, Scott Cecil, Ryan Bond, Eddie Bond, Danny Gibbs, Austin Gibbs, and Josh Cecil. Robert Davis

Robert L. Davis, 50, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at his residence. The Rodenbach, Germany, native was born Dec. 13, 1964, the son of Jimmie R. and Linda L. Stambaugh Davis of Ironton.

Robert was a graduate of Texas City High School and a self-employed carpenter.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Belinda Davis, of Ironton; and two brothers, Jimmy Davis and Lawrence Davis, both of Ironton.

Marie Ackerson

E. Marie Ackerson, 85, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. The Carter County, Kentucky, native was born July 21, 1929, a daughter of the late Milton and Reva Adkins Crank. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil R. “Pete” Ackerson, who passed away Jan. 3, 2001.

Mrs. Ackerson attended Hecla School, was a former employee for the Best Western Hotel and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Randy Ackerson; two brothers, Chester E. Crank and Charles Crank; and two sisters, Louise Mannon and Lana Kay Eaton.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Lee Ackerson, of South Point, and Darrell (Kelly) Ackerson, of Cannonsburg, Kentucky; a daughter, Sandy (Mike) Merritt of Ironton; daughter-in-law, Janie Ackerson of Ashland; a brother, the Rev. Larry Ray (Beverly) Crank of South Point; two sisters, Helen Aldridge of Ironton, and Mary (Lee) Aldridge of Londonderry; brother-in-law, Dave Eaton of Ironton; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Crank and pastor Lee Aldridge officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery.   Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Claude George

Claude Ferdinand George, Jr, 96, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
