The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers played really good defense for one half on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers allowed a mere 5 points in the second half en route to a 63-30 rout of the South Point Lady Pointers in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Ironton trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, then rallied to take a 36-25 halftime lead.

“Defensively, we weren’t playing well. We weren’t getting back and we let them get good looks at the basket and South Point was aggressive,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.

“We played well for three quarters. Defensively, we played really well in the second half.”

Ironton is now 13-5 overall and 10-1 in the OVC. The Lady Tigers play at Coal Grove on Monday and need a win to earn at least a share of the league title.

South Point hosts Rock Hill on Monday in a league game.

Sydney Webb scored a game-high 17 points to lead four Ironton players in double figures.

Jordan Hannan scored 13 points including three 3-pointers, Cheyenne Scott had 12 points and Lexie Barrier tallied 10 points.

Brooklyn Badgett scored 11 points for South Point (4-14, 3-8).

The Lady Pointers went up 15-14 in the first quarter as Badgett scored 9 points.

Webb drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 9 points as Ironton rallied to take a 36-25 halftime lead.

Scott got 6 points in the third quarter as Ironton outscored South Point 21-3 as the lead ballooned to 57-28.

Ironton plays at Coal Grove on Monday in an OVC game.
