GRAYSON, Ky. — If there is a bad scene in a movie, the director just edits it out.

South Point coach Travis Wise wishes he could edit his team’s performance. The Pointers had one bad scene that proved too tough to overcome in a 60-54 loss to the East Carter Raiders on Friday.

“We’re playing well. We played hard. We just have a mental block for three or four minutes every game. We only had 10 turnovers, but they came at crucial times,” said Wise.

Ryan Gibson scored 18 points to lead three Pointers in double figures. Alex Whitt hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 points while Brady Rickard scored 10 points.

The Raiders were up 17-11 after the first quarter.

Whitt came off the bench to hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter but the Raiders extended their lead to 33-22 at the half.

Gibson scored 5 points in the third quarter as the Pointers cut the deficit to 43-35.

Gibson had 6 more points in the fourth quarter as South Point got within 5 points, but the Raiders were able to convert 13-of-17 free throws in the quarter to withstand the Pointers’ comeback bid.

The Raiders were 26-of-33 from the foul line for the game compared to the Pointers’ 11-of-15.

South Point plays at Boyd County, Ky., on Tuesday.
