Crews fix north end water break

Ironton water distribution crews worked Monday evening to repair a break in the north end of town.

Ironton Mayor Rich Blankenship said the break was on North Second Street between Pearl and Union streets. Residents in that area may experienced low water pressure.

During the repair work, residents were asked to avoid the area.

“We are asking people to use North Fifth Street to Elm Street if possible until the crews can make the repair,” Blankenship said on Monday.

There were also three smaller breaks in the city, on Phillips Street, in the State Route 141 area and in an alley off Cliff and Delaware streets.

“We’re putting the smaller ones off until we get it (the larger break) repaired,” Blankenship said.

The changing weather temperatures are thought to be the cause of the breaks.

“This warm and cold weather back and forth, I kind of expected this,” Blankenship said.

Unrelated to the water breaks, Third Street between Walnut and Mulberry streets will be down to one lane today as Columbia Gas workers replace a gas line. The closure is expected to be for today only.
