Justin Blevins

Justin Tate Blevins, 18, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at his residence. Justin was born Sept. 15, 1996, in Portsmouth, to Johnathan Blevins and Tammy Carver Akers. Justin was an auto mechanic student at Scioto County Career Technical Center. He was of the Methodist faith and was loved by everybody. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Rikki and his stepfather, Jeff Akers; two brothers, Clayton Edward Blevins and Liev Dean Blevins; a stepbrother, Aaron Akers; a stepsister, Cassie Akers and his grandparents, Michael and Evelyn Blevins and Randy and Joyce Carver.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Hankins officiating, with interment in Junior Furnace Cemetery.

 

 

Barbara Turvey

Barbara J. “Bobbie” Turvey, 80, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, after a brief illness. Ms. Turvey was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Herman C. and Georgia McKnight Turvey.

Ms. Turvey was a retired nurse from Lawrence County General Hospital in Ironton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Turvey Jr.; and three sisters, Miriam Lynn Turvey, Betty Turvey Cooke and Freda Turvey.

She is survived by four nieces, Beverlee Cooke Collins of Union, Kentucky, Kathy Cooke Smith of South Point, Carolyn Cooke Shepherd of Willow Wood and Marie Cooke Tipton of South Point; a nephew, Richard H. (Rick) Cooke, Jr. of Erlanger, Kentucky; and her special black poodle dog JoJo III.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Jerry Lindsey

Jerry Elbert “Pops” Lindsey, 73, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, formerly of Huntington, West Virginia, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2015. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by pastor Tom Jones. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller. Hazel O’Connor Miller, 88, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Rivers Bend Health Care, South Point. Dale Stewart

Dale Lloyd Stewart, 79, of South Shore, Kentucky, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at home. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 p.m. on Sunday prior to the funeral at 3 p.m. at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, with pastor Andy Ramey officiating. Timothy Woodburn

Timothy Lee Woodburn was delivered from this world into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. He was 61 years old and resided in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Tim was born in Ironton to Jack E. and Mary Woodburn, both now deceased. He was a member of the Ironton High School Class of 1971. He readily enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp following high school and served in Okinawa, Japan. He retired in 2009 from the U.S. Postal Service after 26 years of dedicated service.

Tim is survived by his wife, Becky Hayes Woodburn and two stepchildren, Kelly Hoormann (Mike), of Hendersonville, and Brad Salyer (Rachel), of Bowling Green, Kentucky. His only sibling, Jack Jr., resides in Tucson, Arizona. Barbara Woodburn, his precious stepmother, resides in Ironton. He was a very special and beloved Papaw to Braden and Logan Hoormann and Ava Grace and Hayslie Salyer. He is also survived by a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly.

Tim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Russell, Kentucky, and a former member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Ashland. He had an insatiable hunger for the Word of God and dearly loved Southern Gospel music. He was also an avid motorcyclist. He never felt closer to God than when he was on the open road with the wind in his face.

A graveside service was held at the Nashville National Cemetery where full military honors were observed at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28. A celebration of his life will be held in Ashland at the First Baptist Church Russell at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
