Trojans beat Redmen to earn share of OVC

PEDRO — The Portsmouth Trojans made sure they held up their end of the deal.

The Trojans rolled past the Rock Hill Redmen 66-46 on Saturday to clinch at least a share of the Ohio Valley Conference basketball title.

Portsmouth finishes the regular season 16-6 overall and 10-2 in the OVC. The Trojans are one-half game ahead of Chesapeake who needs a win over Fairland on Tuesday to gain a share of the title.

The Trojans did their damage with 24-of-48 shooting form the field that included 10-of-24 from behind the arc. The defense also forced 23 turnovers.

Ky’re Allison had 17 points, Ethan Leonard 15 and Sky Oliver 11 to lead the Trojans who completed their first season in the OVC. Nine different players scored.

Rock Hill (7-15, 1-10) was led by senior Austin Collins with 20 points. Senior Austin Barcus scored 10 points.

The Redmen were 15-of-33 form the field and 2-of-7 from the 3-point line.

The Trojans began the game with a 7-0 run and led 19-9 after the first quarter. They continued to pull away by taking a 42-20 halftime lead.

Rock Hill was just 3-of-12 from the field in the third quarter that included five turnovers. Portsmouth continued to shoot well by making 5-of-8 from 3-point land to open up a 61-26 lead.

Collins scored 10 straight points to begin the fourth quarter as Rock Hill cut the deficit to 61-36.

But Zach Delotell scored to end the run and the Trojans went on to win.

Collins scored 12 points in the quarter as Rock Hill outscored Portsmouth 20-5.

Rock Hill visits South Point on Tuesday.
