William Horn

William David Horn, 68, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Ironton native was born Sept. 15, 1946, a son of the late Roy David and Carrie Elizabeth Woods Horn. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Theresa Deerfield Horn, whom he married Feb. 8, 1966.

Bill attended Dawson-Bryant High School, was a self-employed subcontractor and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Moose Lodge in Ironton and the VFW Post 8850. He loved hunting, fishing and watching the New England Patriots football. He also loved his children and grandchildren very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George “Buddy” Horn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sandy Webb, of Coal Grove, Billie (Jason) Gray and Linda “GiGi” (Jeff) Murphy, both of Ironton; four grandchildren, David Webb, of Coal Grove, Brady Gray, of Franklin Furnace, Jeffery Horn and Shaylee Murphy, both of Ironton; a great-grandchild, Austin Fultz, of Ironton; two sisters, Janet Mullens and Lois Martin, both of Coal Grove; a brother, Tom Horn, of Coal Grove; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Phillips Funeral Home, P.O. Gary Freeman

Gary Freeman, 75, of South Point, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born Sept. 23, 1939, in Ironton, a son of the late Albert Lee Freeman and Anna Frances Netherly Freeman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James F. Freeman. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a 1957 graduate of South Point High School. He was a carpenter and contractor and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include four sisters, Thelma McComas of South Point, Doris Reyes of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Marrietta “Sam” Boevers and husband, Robert of Crossville, Tennessee, and Linda Kay Bowman and husband, Donald of Sevierville, Tennessee; one brother, Dale Freeman and wife, Verna of South Point; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Ronnie Johnson of South Point.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with pastor Aaron Childers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Gary Moore

Gary A. Moore, 65, of Ironton, died Jan. 26, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.

 

 

Lonnie Mercer

Lonnie Mercer, 56, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Mercer. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rowe family cemetery in Chesapeake. There will be no visitation. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Peter Hammond

Peter S. Hammond, 41, of Ironton, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory.

 

 

Louise Simpkins

Louise Simpkins, 92, of Wellington, Kentucky, formerly of Proctorville, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at home. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Donald Vance

Donald Lee Vance, 64, of South Point, died Feb. 22, 2015. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hanging Rock Apostolic Church with pastor Glenn Jenkins officiating.
