High water signs being stolen

As least 10 “high water” signs have been stolen throughout Lawrence County since Thursday, according to Lawrence County Engineer Doug Cade.
On Friday, sheriff Jeff Lawless took to social media to urge residents to think of other’s safety.
“The people who are stealing these signs are putting everyone’s life in danger because it removes a warning that could prevent someone from diving into the water,” Lawless said via social media. “If you live in areas where the water rises over the roads, please use caution because the road may not have a warning sign but the water may still be up.”
The county engineer’s office is working to replace the warning markers.
Anyone with information as to who has taken a sign is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 740-532-35252.
