Vikings down Panthers

WILLOW WOOD — Getting a little of everything gave the Symmes Valley Vikings everything they needed.

The Vikings played well in all facets of the game as they beat the Chesapeake Panthers 9-1 on Wednesday.

“We hit the ball pretty well up and down the lineup and our pitchers threw strikes. It was a good win,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

Dillon McFann and Chayden Renfroe combined on a seven-hitter for the Vikings.

McFann got the win as he worked four innings with three strikeouts, two walks and gave up five hits.

Renfroe went three innings striking out two, walked just one and giving up two hits.

McFann also led the offense as he went 3-4 with a triple. Jacob Klaiber was 2-4 as the Vikings got nine hits.

Blake Bowen was 1-2, Cameron Meadows and Payton Hayes 1-3 and Trent Thompson 1-4 or the Vikings (2-0).

Chesapeake (1-2) was led by Blake Lester who went 2-3 and Nate Smith who was 2-4 with a double. Blake Ashworth was 1-2 while Jake Henson and Kolton Webb were 1-3.

After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings broke loose with six runs in the second inning.

Meadows walked, Thompson singled, Bowen had an RBI single and McFann a two-run single to highlight the uprising.

The lead went to 7-0 in the third when Klaiber singled moved up on a pair of passed balls and scored on a ground out.

A run scored in the fourth when Hayes singled and McFann doubled him home.

The Vikings final run scored in the sixth when McFann singled, Tanner Mays was hit by a pitch and Klaiber singled.

Chesapeake got its run in the senveth when Ashworth walked and Smith doubled.

The Vikings play at Green on Friday in a league game.
