AID — It was a shutdown day for the Symmes Valley pitchers.

Stephanie Brown and Kaitlyn Payne allowed just one run each as the Lady Vikings beat the Beaver Eastern Lady Eagles 11-1 and 10-1 in Southern Ohio Conference games on Saturday.

Brown pitched a one-hitter over five innings. She struck out 13 and walked one.

Payne gave up four hits in five innings as she struck out six and walked one.

“Both pitchers pitched really well again and we hit the ball,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (4-0, 3-0) had nine hits in the first game and banged out 19 in the nightcap.

Brown also had a big day at the plate as she went 8-for-8 with three doubles and a home run. Payne also hit well by going 4-7 with two doubles.

Autumn Keathley was 4-6, Taylor Webb 3-9 and Caitlin Carpenter 3-7 with a triple.

In the first game, Brown homered in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1.

The Lady Vikings scored three times in the third as Brown doubled, Webb reached on an error, Payne had a two-run double and Keathley an RBI single.

In a seven-run fourth, Brenna Morris was safe on an error, Brown doubled and Webb had a two-run single. Payne doubled in a run, Hatfield and Keathley reached on errors, Mays had a two-run singled and a run scored on a wild pitch.

The second game scoreless until the third when the Lady Vikings scored three runs.

Webb singled, Payne reached on a fielder’s choice, Hatfield flied out to move up the runners, Keathley had an rbi single, Carpenter walked and Payton Walsh singled in a run.

Eastern got a run in the fifth, but the Vikings answered with seven in the sixth.

Brown doubled, Webb singled and Payne had an RBI double. Hatfield and Keathley singled for a run, Carpenter had a two-run double, and Sierra Ross and Brown singled in runs.

The Lady Vikings host Western on Monday in a league game.
