BEAVER — Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other guy.
The Eastern Eagles took advantage of three unearned runs in the first inning as they nipped the Green Bobcats 4-3 on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“Give them credit. Their pitcher kept us off-balance,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“We gave up three unearned runs in the first inning and couldn’t recover. After that, it was a well-played, well-pitched game and both teams made all the plays.”
Trevor Carver threw well for Green (1-1, 1-1). He gave up just five hits, struck out nine and walked two.
The Bobcats were guilty of three errors.
Tyler Darnell was 2-for-3 with a run batted as Green had six hits. Josh Karshner was 1-2 with an RBI, Carver 1-3 and an RBI, and Mark Allen and Ben Vance 1-3.
Green scored two in the top of the first inning
Tyler Darnell reached on an error, stole second and scored on Karshner’s hit. Karshner stole second and Carver had an RBI single.
Eastern got all its runs in the bottom of the first.
The Bobcats got a run in the third when Vance singled, stole second and Darnell singled.
Green visits Western on Wednesday in a league game.
