AID — Waste not, want not.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were a model of efficiency as they parlayed six hits into a 9-0 shutout of the Western Lady Indians on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We didn’t have many hits, but they were timely hits. And we got another outstanding outing by Stephanie Brown,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Brown pitched a two-hitter as she struck out 13 and didn’t walk a batter.

Taylor Webb was 2-for-4 for the Lady Vikings (5-0, 4-0). Kaitlyn Payne and Tiara Hatfield were 1-4 with a double, Hannah Mays 1-3 with a triple and Brown 1-4.

The Lady Vikings got two runs the first Brown and Webb singled, moved up on a wild pitch and Payne hit a sacrifice fly. Hatfield doubled home the second run.

Mays tripled to start the second and scored on Brown’s sacrifice fly.

The lead went to 6-0 in the third inning.

Payne, Hatfield, Sierra Ross wall walked to load the bases and a wild pitch scored Payne. Catlyn Carpenter was safe on an error as two runs scored.

A run scored in the fourth when Brown reached on an error, Webb walked, Payne hit into a fielder’s choice and Hatfield hit the Lady Vikings’ third sacrifice fly of the game.

The Lady Vikings got the final two runs in the sixth.

Brown reached on an error, Webb singled and Payne had an RBI double. Webb scored on a ground out by Hatfield.
