Kenzie Cremeens wears gloves when she bats. She ought to wear oven mitts.
Cremeens hit her second home run in two games as the Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 6-4 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“Kenzie Cremeens’ bat is hot,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.
Fairland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and Ironton got a run back in the bottom of the inning.
But Cremeens belted a three-run shot in the second inning for a 4-2 lead.
Fairland got a run in the third and one in the fifth inning to tie the game, but Ironton rallied with two runs in its half of the inning to take the lead for good.
Ironton (5-0, 2-0) had six different players get hits, three for extra bases.
Taylor Monk and Ariel Whitt each went 1-3 with a double, Aley Carmon was 1-2 and Kylie Barcus was 1-4.
“I just can’t praise Ariel Whitt enough for her play at second base. She is an all-out hustler and makes some really good plays. I am very pleased with her efforts this season,” said Fields.
Fairland (2-1, 0-1) had nine hits as Mackenzie Riley was 2-4 with two doubles. Mollie Morris and Morgan Fridley were 2-3, Maddy Kazee 2-4, and Ellen Hinshaw 1-2.
Kylee Metzger got the win as she struck out eight, walked one and hit two batters.
Allison Shepherd took the loss as she struck out three and walked one.
On Tuesday, Ironton hosts Greenup County while Fairland visits South Point.
