Redwomen rally to beat Pointers
SOUTH POINT — The Rock Hill Redwomen learned what it meant to be in a fight and how to fight back.
After falling behind 5-1 early, the Redwomen rallied for a 13-7 Ohio Valley Conference win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Monday.
“We hit the ball well. I was proud of their effort for fighting back. They showed some resilience. But give South Point credit. They hit the ball well,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.
“It was a great team win. Everyone did their job.”
Rock Hill got a run in the first when Kaci Russell singled, went to third on an error and Riann Keating had an RBI single.
South Point answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Abbey Winkler and Sylvia Griffith singled and Emilee Powell had a two-run single.
The Lady Pointers got a run in the second when Winkler doubled and Powell singled.
The lead went to 5-1 in the third.
Lexi Smith singled and Leah Lawson had an RBI double. Duncan followed with a run-scoring double.
Rock Hill tied the game in the top of the fourth.
Keating and Lilly McGinnis singled, Anna Darby reached on an error, and Brooklynn Kingery was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Russell had an RBI single, Jenna Lane was hit by a pitch, and Jill Hairston hit a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the inning, Winkler and Haley Rawlins doubled for a run.
The Redwomen got the run back in the fifth when Keating was hit by a pitch and McGinnis and Darby singled.
Rock Hill took an 8-6 lead in the sixth when Lane reached on an error and Hairston drilled a two-run homer.
South Point came back with a run in the bottom of the inning when Abby Hannah singled and scored on a hit by Winkler.
Rock Hill put the game away with five runs in the seventh.
Darby and Kingery doubled for a run. McKenzy Barcus singled in the second run and Russell and Lane singled for another run and Keating was safe on an error to score a run.
Rock Hill (8-0, 1-0) visits Fairland on Wednesday.
