SOUTH POINT — Alex Whitt was a different kind of one-hit wonder.

Whitt fired a one-hitter as the South Point Pointers blanked the Rock Hill Redmen 1-0 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Whitt struck out nine and did not walk a batter. He threw just 91 pitches and faced only 24 batters.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning.

Wade Logan reached on an error and pinch-runner Justin Taylor stole second. After a ground out, Brandon Layne singled home Taylor.

Drew Adams had a two-out double to score Layne and Douglass Schaffer singled in the final run.

Sean McFann had a two-out single in the top of the sixth inning for the lone Rock Hill hit.

McFann pitched well for the Redmen. In 5.2 innings, he struck out 10, walked three and gave up six hits. He was charged with all three runs.

Layne was 2-3 to lead the Pointers (3-0, 1-0). Whitt doubled, Schaffer was 1-2 while Trey Kearns and Adams were 1-3.

South Point hosts Huntington St. Joe on Tuesday and Rock Hill visits Fairland on Wednesday.
