PORTSMOUTH — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were quite a hit on Wednesday.

Symmes Valley (7-0, 6-0) collected 15 hits en route to a 13-0 five inning Southern Ohio Conference win over the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers.

Kaitlyn Payne led the onslaught as she went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple and three runs batted in.

“We hit the ball well up and down the lineup. We had a lot of hits and we had six extra base hits and that helps you score a lot of runs,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Stephanie Brown was 2-4 with a double, Taylor Webb 2-4, Tiara Hatfield 2-4 with a double and three RBI, and Catlyn Carpenter 2-3 with a double and two RBI.

Brown got the win as she gave up just two hits, struck out six and walked two over the five innings.

Symmes Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Brown doubled, Webb got a bunt single and a wild pitch scored Brown. Payne tripled to score Webb and then she scored on a wild pitch.

Hatfield walked, Sierra Ross singled and both scored on a hit by Catlyn Carpenter to cap the rally.

The lead went to 6-0 in the second when Webb singled, stole second and third and scored on a hit by Payne.

The Lady Vikings scored four runs in the third.

Hannah Mays singled, Carpenter doubled and Brown had an RBI single. Webb walked to load the bases and Payne and Hatfield followed with two-run singles.

In the fourth, the Lady Vikings added two more runs.

Autumn Keathley tripled and scored on a wild pitch for the first run. Carpenter then walked, stole second and scored on error.

The final run scored in the fifth when Payne and Hatfield doubled.

Danielle Cline and Cami Whitley had the only hits for Clay (2-4, 0-2).

Symmes Valley visits New Boston on Friday.
