AID — Tanner Mays wasn’t unhittable, but he was close.

Mays struck out 14 of the 15 outs as he pitched a no-hitter in the Symmes Valley Vikings’ 13-0 five-inning Southern Ohio Conference win on Friday.

“That was his first time out and I wanted to get him some work,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “He ended up throwing pretty well. He threw a lot of strikes and that’s what I was looking for from him.”

Mays helped his own cause with a two-run homer in the first inning for a 2-0 lead.

The Vikings got four runs in the second inning keyed by May’s two-run single.

Trent Thompson cracked a two-run double in the fourth and fifth innings as the lead grew to 12-0.

Mays finished 2-for-3 with the home run while Thompson was 2-4 with two doubles. Jacob Klaiber and Dillon McFann each went 1-2.

The Vikings parlayed their seven hits with six walks and four New Boston errors to produce the 13 runs.
