Susan Salyers

Susan Diane Salyers, 70, of South Point, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015, at a local health care center. The Ashland, Kentucky, native was born Aug. 22, 1944, a daughter of the late Frank and Lena Mellon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Salyers, who passed away in 1983.

Mrs. Salyers was a graduate of Catlettsburg High School, a homemaker and mother.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Melissa Hensley and Pam Shahzad; and two sisters, Joann Truexx and Peggy Horn.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Baldridge of South Point and Terri Boggs of Ashland, Kentucky; a sister, Lena Ramey of Flatwoods, Kentucky; a brother, Frank Mellon of Lexington, Kentucky; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Jack Cheek

Jack Cheek, 76, of Wheelersburg, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at his residence. Jack was born June 20, 1938, in Salyersville, Kentucky, to the late John and Lillian Bailey Cheek. Jack was a truck driver for Portsmouth Casting, a member of the ATA, Amateur Trapshooting Association, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Ruth “Wilson” Cheek, whom he married July 29, 1960, in Ironton. Also surviving are two sons, Mark “Beth” Cheek and Michael “Lisa Marie” Cheek; a daughter, Lisa “Gary” Ferguson; three brothers, Conway, Kenneth and Ted Cheek; four sisters, Dorothy Hardin, Mary Miller, Margaret Fairchild and Teresa Sloas; eight grandchildren, Cathy, Tiffany, Susan, Courtney, Corey, Paul, Fredie and Remington; two great-grandchildren; and his dog, Jackie Sue.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with pastor Ronnie Blevins officiating and interment in Sunset Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service on Tuesday.

 

 

Richard Jones

Richard Lee Jones, 57, of Pataskala, died Saturday, April 4, 2015, at home. A visitation will be from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

 

Thomas McComas

Thomas Junior McComas, 72, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, formerly of Groveport, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Pickering House in Lancaster. He was born on Dec. 14, 1942, in Lawrence County, to the late Arnold W. and Alice Jane (Webb) McComas. Junior retired from COTA in Columbus and had also been a bus driver for Groveport Madison Schools. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora (Riley) McComas in 2009; a sister, Thelma McComas; and brothers, Lawrence McComas and James McComas.

He is survived by a son, Thomas J. McComas of Granville; daughters, Laura (James) Middleton of New Straitsville and Tammy (Ralph) Perkins of Pickerington; grandchildren, Kenneth Middleton, William (Lindsey) Middleton, Jordan Perkins, Benjamin McComas, Olivia Perkins and Johnathan McComas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 West Main Street, Ashville, on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bryan Grove officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Langdon Gardens, Lawrence County. Per family request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Pickering House, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster 43130.

 

 

Russell Ferguson

Russell Edmund “Eddie” Ferguson, 73, of Proctorville, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Sunset Nursing Center. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, with Rev. Clyde Carter officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge of arrangements. Sylvia Tackett

Sylvia Maxine Preston-Tackett, 89, of Flatwoods, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with pastor Jim Nichols and brother Davis Daniels officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Burial Park in Ashland. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

 

Daniel Boster

Daniel Edward Boster, 88, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at home. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, by pastor Brady Lipscomb.
