PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen know how to make things count.

Seven different batters combined for nine hits to help Rock Hill blank the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 7-0 on Saturday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Jenna Lane was 2-for-2 and Jill Hairston 2-for-3 to lead the Rock Hill offense.

Hairston had two doubles while Lane, Makenzi Harrah and Riann Keating all had a double.

“It seems like each player on our team is contributing at the plate in different ways. Key hits in key spots are crucial to winning games,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.

“Today, we were able to get them when we needed them. We are just trying to focus on one game at a time and be a little better each time out.

Hairston got the win as she pitched a three-hitter. She struck out six, walked two and hit a batter.

“Jill and Riann have been so consistent and we’ve been fortunate to rely on great team defense behind them,” said Gue.

Melanie Noble took the loss. She gave up nine hits, struck out two and walked one.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Rock Hill put together a four-run rally.

Jenna Lane singled, Hairston doubled and Makenzi Harrah cracked a two-run double.

Keating followed with an RBI double, took third on a passed ball and scored when Lily McGinnis grounded out.

The Redwomen added a run in the fifth on doubles by Lane and Hairston.

Rock Hill added two insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Keating started the inning with a walk and went to second on a passed ball. Anna Darby singled Keating to third and went to second on a throw from the outfield.

Brooklynn Kingery then singled in a run and Mckenzy Barcus grounded out to shortstop to drive in the final run.

Noble was 2-3 and Lindsey Davidson 1-2 for Chesapeake’s hits.

On Monday, Rock Hill visits Portsmouth while Chesapeake hosts Ironton in league games.
