PORTSMOUTH — Jenna Lane put out a Portsmouth fire and in turn lit one under her teammates.

Lane’s key defensive play in the bottom of the fifth inning led to a three-run rally in the sixth as the Rock Hill Redwomen blanked the Lady Trojans 3-0 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“That was a big play. That gave us some momentum. It got the bats going,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.

The game was score when Portsmouth put runners on second and third in the fifth. Lane caught a fly ball in center and threw home to double up the runner trying to score.

Rock Hill (10-0, 3-0) responded with three runs in the sixth.

Taylor Hall singled to start the inning. Lane then singled, Jill Hairston hit into fielder’s choice, and Makenzi Harrah had a two-run single.

Riann Keating then walked and McKenzy Barcus singled in an insurance run.

“Kenzie Harrah came up with another key hit,” said Gue.

Hairston got the win with a six-hitter. She struck out five and did not walk a batter and was backed by a defense that did not make an error.

Rock Hill visits Green on Tuesday.
