HRs power Redwomen to win over Lady Dragons

PEDRO — Power up.

No, it’s not an episode of The Power Rangers, just another win by the Rock Hill Redwomen who blanked the Fairland Lady Dragons 11-0 in five innings on Thursday thanks to home runs by Makenzi Harrah and Anna Darby.

“We’ve got different people contributing in different situations. Harrah had a great game all-around. Darby made some great plays in the field,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.

Rock Hill is now 17-0 overall and 7-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Jill Hairston got the win with a three-hitter. She struck out three and did not issue a walk.

“It all boils down to pitching and defense. We’ve just remained consistent all season,” said Gue whose defense did not make an error.

Besides the home runs, Kaci Russell doubled and Jenna Lane tripled for the Redwomen.

Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Russell double, Lane singled and stole second and Harrah had a two-run single.

The lead went to 4-0 in the second on a hit by Brooklynn Kingrey and Darby’s two-run homer.

Lane tripled and scored on Hairston’s ground out to start the third inning. Harrah capped the rally with a solo home run and it was 6-0.

Rock Hill put the game away with five runs in the fourth inning.

Darby and Alexis Brammer walked, Russell reached on an error for a run and Hairston’s ground ball was booted for an error as anothre run scored.

Harrah was safe on an error as a run scored and Riann Keating also reached on an error as two runs scored.

Ellen Hinshaw, Morgan Fridley and Allison Shepherd were all 1-2 for Fairland (5-7, 1-5).
