NEW BOSTON — When someone gives you a gift, be gracious and accept it with a smile.

Symmes Valley parlayed 10 hits, nine walks and eight errors into a 17-0 spanking of the New Boston Lady Tigers on Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“It was a little like Christmas. We got some things on our own and we got a few gifts from them that we were able to take advantage of to score a bunch of runs,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“We were able to let a lot of girls play and we had a lot of girls contribute.”

Stephanie Brown allowed just two singles over five innings for the win. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Kaitlyn Payne had a two-run single as the Lady Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Symmes Valley (13-2, 9-0) erupted for 10 runs in the second inning highlighted by Brown’s two-run single and a bases-clearing three-run double by Sierra Ross.

Caitlyn Crabtree had a two-run single as the Lady Vikings scored three runs in the third inning.

Taylor Webb was 2-for-3 while Payne and Tiara Hatfield were 2-4 to lead the Symmes Valley offense.

The Lady Vikings will play Ripley (W.Va.) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Gallipolis Round Robin Tournament.
