Jeffrey Shope

Jeffrey Allen Shope, 55, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. Jeff was born April 1, 1960, in Ironton, a son to Glenn and Joyce Ann (Adams) Shope.

Jeff was a graduate of Ironton High School. He worked as a machinist and was of the Christian faith. Jeff loved playing guitar, hiking and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Greg Shope. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brian Shope; a sister, Glynis (Donnie) Fields; two nieces; and two great-nephews.

Paul Smith

Paul “Bub” Richard Smith, Jr., 73, of Chesapeake, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born July 1, 1941, a son of the late Paul Smith Sr. and Eva Katherine Halleck Smith.

Paul was of the Baptist faith and loved fishing, hunting and watching the Reds play baseball.

He is survived by two daughters, Pauline (Shane) Conley,of Ironton, and Jackie (Roman) Johnson, of Kitts Hill; granddaughter, Selena Johnson; sister, Rose (Charlie) Rowe, of Crown City; grandchildren, Ceirra Conley, Paige Conley, Katelynn Conley and Grace Conley; nephews, Joey Petty, Junior Petty and Virgil Petty; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Brenda Petty; and nephew, Elva Paul Keeney Jr.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor James Kearns officiating. Burial will follow in Langdon Cemetery and visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Kathleena Burke

Kathleena Star Burke, 26, of Loraine, formerly of Ironton/Franklin Furnace, was found on April 11, 2015, in Lorain County after being missing for over a year.

She was born Jan. 2, 1989, a daughter of Jaime Meschelle Kersey and Paul Jessie Burke Jr. Kathleena was a waitress and a 2007 graduate of Rock Hill High School. She was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Massie.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Nevaeh Burke; two daughters, Mersadie Burke and Nina Burke; two brothers, Kyle Franklin Kersey and his fiancee Sharon Duncan and Paul Jessie Burke III; four sisters, Tina Jo Pricer and her husband Patrick, Melissa Marie Bozart and her husband Johnathon, Anita Kersey and her fiance Cory Riffe and Cynthia K. Klopfenstein; a brother, Paul Jessie Burke Jr.; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Juanita Brown; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in the Hecla Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon until time of services at the chapel. Memorial donations should be directed to the Brown Funeral Chapel and a GoFundMe account has been set up to help with final expenses.

Her family has entrusted her care to the Brown Funeral Chapel at Ironton.

 

 

Gary McSorley

Gary Lee McSorley, 48, of Ironton, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Jan. 16, 1967, in Ironton, a son of Mary Jo Stapleton McSorley and the late Fred McSorley. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by twin sons, Timothy and Thomas; a brother, Fred McSorley; and a sister, Tina Long.

Gary was a graduate of the Rock Hill school system and a member of First Baptist Church Americana in Ironton. He was a retired laborer and painter with Rangers Steel, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry France McSorley; three sons, Tylor McSorley, Jeremy McSorley and Justin McSorley, all of Ironton; three daughters, Amy McSorley and Brittney Sparks, both of Ironton, and Sheena Sparks, of South Point; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mary Jo Stapleton McSorley, of Ironton; a brother, Greg McSorley, of Ironton; and three sisters, Kelli Depriest, Sheri Friend and Jolinda Elswick, all of Pedro.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland.

 

 

Sallye Robinson

Sallye Robinson, 89, of Chesapeake, died Friday, April 24, 2015, in River’s Bend Health Care with her husband by her side. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.
