SOUTH POINT — Maybe this is the new Math.

The South Point Lady Pointers used a softball equation that equaled an 11-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Friday.

“They always say in softball you hit the ball, you catch the ball, you throw the ball, and that’s exactly what we did,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tanner Heaberlin whose team did not commit an error.

“Lexi Smith pitched a really nice game and went 4-for-5 at the player. Haley Rawlins and Abbey Winkler kept their hot bats going and that equals a win most of the time.”

Smith pitched a five-hitter and went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double as South Point banged out 14 hits.

Rawlins had a huge game as the shortstop went 3-3 with a bases-loaded home run, a double and five runs batted in.

Abbey Winkler and Emilee Powell each went 2-4 for the Lady Pointers (9-6, 5-5).

The game was scoreless until the third inning when South Point scored five runs.

Jamishua Anderson reached on an error with Keiana Conwell, Winkler and Smith all getting a base hit for a run. Rawlins then drilled a grand slam.

The lead went to 7-0 in the fourth inning on a single by Smith, Rawlins double, and RBI singles by Halie Powell and Emilee Powell.

Chesapeake got its run in the fifth on a double by Natalee Hall and singles by Brooke Webb and Kelsey Huff.

The Lady Pointers ended the game with four runs in the sixth.

Winkler doubled and Smith and Rawlins singled for a run. Halie Powell doubled home two runs, went to tird on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Emilee Powell.
