SOUTH POINT — Alex Whitt and Trey Kearns must have thought senior night meant they had to shine.

Regardless of what it meant, the two South Point seniors did shine as the Pointers edged the Portsmouth West Senators 4-3 on Tuesday.

Whitt pitched a five-hit complete game, struck out nine and walked just one. Kearns went 3-for-3 as the Pointers had eight hits.

South Point took a 1-0 lead in the first as Kearns walked, stole second and third and Whitt singled him home.

The Pointers opened up a 4-0 lead in the third.

Kearns singled, stole second and scored on Logan Wade’s base hit. Whitt reached on an error and Drew Adams smacked a triple as two runs scored.

Shane Liston walked but Douglas Shaffer singled home Adams.

West got a run in the fifth when Aaron Dyer walked, stole second and scored on Wesley Book’s base hit.

The Senators got two runs in the sixth before Whitt choked off the rally.

Trent Cole singled, Cody Finley doubled and Slaid Bishop and Cody Wiltshire followed with RBI singles.

But Whitt got a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning.
