PEDRO — It was one of those offensive games, and the Rock Hill Redmen had a little bit more offense.

The Redmen rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Portsmouth Trojans 9-8 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was one of those games where both teams hit the ball,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“After they got the lead in the middle innings, I told the kids to put on their hitting shoes and get to work.”

The Redmen laced up their hitting shoes plenty tight as they collected 16 hits with Corey Noel going 4-for-5, Brandon Schob and Kyle Stanfield 3-4, Drew McClaskey 3-5 and Austin Bacus 2-2 plus two walks as he reached back four times.

Portsmouth (10-13) had eight hits led by Hunter Gibson who was 2-4 with a home run and a double.

Barcus singled, Shawn Wilds was hit by a pitch and Stanfield singled for Rock Hill’s first run in the seventh.

McClaskey beat out an infield hit to load the bases and Noel singled to tie the game.

Marzicola then laid down a squeeze bunt to score the winning run.

The Redmen took a 2-0 lead in the second when Heath Carpenter doubled, Barcus singled and a throwing error scored a run. Stanfield singled and another throwing error scored the second run.

Rock Hill (3-13, 2-10) added a run in the third when Sean McFann was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a hit by Schob.

Portsmouth got four runs in the fourth but the Redmen scored twice in the bottom of the frame.

Barcus walked, Stanfield and McClaskey singled and Noel had a two-run single.

The Trojans went up 8-5 when the Redmen got a run back in the sixth on singles by McClaskey, Noel and Schob.

Marzicola worked the final three innings to get the win.

Rock Hill visits Gallipolis on Friday.
