Laverne Deering

Laverne Deering, 88, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at home. She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Boyd County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Alonzo and Helen Hall Childers.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Deering; one sister, Jean Johnson; one brother, Henry Childers; and beloved dog, Minnie. She is survived by one daughter, Glenda Deering; one special granddaughter, Jennifer Bogar, whom she adored; one grandson, Christopher Bogar; two sisters, Janice Sands and Marie Huff; beloved niece, Terri Edwards; beloved nephew, Jeff Sands; and beloved grand dogs, Daisy, Danielle, Ginger, Jasper and Chloe.

She was a devout and lifelong member of Catlettsburg Freewill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sung in a gospel quartet for many years in various areas. She retired from Lawrence County Probate Court. She was also a foster grandparent at the Open Door School. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Catlettsburg Freewill Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn Goody

Evelyn “Sue” Mae Goody, 68, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born March 7, 1947, a daughter of the late Lee Roy Kidd and Mary Hall Kidd Addis. Mrs. Goody is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry “Bill” Lee Goody, Sr., whom she married Nov. 10, 1962.

Sue attended Rock Hill High School, was a CNA for Jo-Lin Health Center, retiring after 31 years and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Ray Kidd; her mother-in-law, Beatrice Willis; and her father-in-law, Donniver Goody.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Fonda Goody Stapleton of Ironton; two sons, Jerry Lee (Margie) Goody, Jr. of Bristol, Indiana and Mark Allen Goody of Ironton; two brothers, James Kidd of Milford, Indiana and Art (Bonnie) Kidd of New Paris, Indiana; a sister: Phyllis (Ted) Kelley of Pedro; two sisters-in-law, Gloria (Wibbie) Cochran and Kendra (Troy) Farmer all of Ironton; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Roger Waller

Roger Keith Waller, 66, of Gainesville, Florida, died on Saturday, May 2, 2015. The Coal Grove native was born July 12, 1948, the son of Freda Baker Waller of Coal Grove and the late Ralph Waller. He was a 1966 Coal Grove High School graduate. He was a Navy veteran and a retired supervisor from Gainesville Regional Utilities. Survivors include one daughter, Mitzi Waller of Orlando, Florida; one sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Larry Woodrum of Ironton; and one brother Dean Waller of Milford. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery section P with Kenny Hurst officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home.

 

 

Mike Viglianco

Mike Viglianco, 88, of South Point, died Monday, May 4, 2015. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. Chesapeake.
