This was not the ending to the story that the Ironton Fighting Tigers wanted to write.

Four errors led to five unearned runs as Ironton lost 11-1 in six innings on Wednesday to the Crooksville Ceramics in the Division III sectional tournament.

“It was a difficult way to end our season. The players worked hard all season. I am very proud of our seniors this year. We had a good core of young players returning who received a lot of reps this season that will help us in the future,” said Ironton coach Larry Goodwin.

Garrett Carrico worked 4.1 innings and allowed six runs but only two were earned as he took the loss for Ironton.

The Fighting Tigers managed just four hits off Chris Sparks including two by Carrico. Dane Wilson and Tanner Price had the other hits.

The game was scoreless until the third when the Ceramics got three runs.

Chris Willison singled, Matt Sellers reached on an error and Jeffrey Patrick had an RBI single. Steven Taylor and Cody Harper had sacrifice hits to score runs.

Three more runs scored in the fourth.

Nate Daniels and Taylor walked and Landon Hinkle was safe on an error for a run. Taylor scored on a passed ball and Sellers’ sacrifice hit scored a run.

The final five runs scored in the sixth inning.

Hinkle walked, Willison singled and Patrick was safe on an error as a run scored.

Harper singled in a run, Taylor had a two-run single and another error scored the final run.

Ironton got its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Wilson was hit by a pitch and scored on a hit by Carrico.
