Pirates use walks to down Dragons

WHEELERSBURG — The Wheelersburg Pirates decided to take a walk, thanks to the Fairland Dragons.

Fairland pitchers allowed only eight hits but walked 14 batters in a 16-1 five-inning loss to the Pirates on Saturday in the Division III sectional finals.

Marshall signee Wade Martin pitched a one-hitter, struck out nine and did not walk a batter as he picked up the win for the Pirates.

Jacob Roe was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and Martin had an RBI double to lead the Pirates.

Collin Damron had the lone hit for Fairland (9-11).

Wheelersburg (23-1) will play Waverly in the district semifinals on Tuesday in Chillicothe.
