Three local athletes get berths in regional

NELSONVILLE — Day one produced three qualifiers.

Three local track athletes advanced regional track meet during the first day of the Division II Southeast District track meet on Tuesday at Nelsonville-York.

The final day of the district will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Atiya Spaulding won the high jump with a leap of 5-3 to get a regional meet berth.

South Point’s Mackenzie Fugitt was fifth at 4-8 while Ironton’s Alexis Wise and Fairland’s Ciarra Brown both went 4-8 and tied for sixth.

The top four finishers in each event advance.

Fairland Dragons’ Zach McKinney was second in the discus with a toss of 148-10 to advance to the regional meet.

Fairland’s Jake Wireman also qualified for the regional meet by finishing fourth in the pole vault as he cleared 12-6.

Chesapeake’s Seth Marlowe was eighth with an 11-6 height.

The Panthers’ Cecil Fletcher leaped 19-10.5 to place fifth and South Point’s Keion Dre’ Hill was sixth with a distance of 19-6.

The Fairland Lady Dragons 4×800 relay team was fifth as Shanan Ashton, Sarah Warnock, Emmy Fulks and Jessica Price ran a 10:55.54 time.

The Lady Dragons’ Breanna Brewer was fifth in the shot put at 33-9.

The Rock Hill Redmen 4×800 relay team of Brendon McCormick, Seth Miller, Brndon Burditt and Nathan Turvey was fifth at 8:46.60 and the South Point quartet of Gage Stephens, Micah Harris, Tyler Mathes and Tanner Mathes was sixth at 8:49.71.

The regional meet is May 28 and 30 at New Concord John Glenn High School.
