Wayne Rucker

Wayne Vernon Rucker, 94, of Ironton, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland. The Lawrence County native was born May 11, 1921, a son to the late Joe and Emma (Reynolds) Rucker. Wayne was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Mae (Barnhart) Rucker and his second wife, Pearl “Lizzy” (Ross) Rucker.

Mr. Rucker was a graduate of Waterloo High School. Wayne went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1942-1945. He was a WWII veteran. He later worked as a carpenter for the Carpenter’s Local 200 where he retired in 1988 after 45 years of service.

In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne was preceded in death by daughter, Ruth Lee Rucker; two stepsons, Emerson Ross and Everett Ross; five sisters, Verna Rucker, Avis Helen Kelley, Chloe Rucker, Nola Kelley and Gladys Rucker; and two brothers, Gifford and Ray Rucker

Wayne is survived by a daughter, Alice Price of West Jefferson; a son, Rodney (Rebecca) Rucker of London; five stepchildren, Fran Wheeler, Janet Payne, Cathy Payne, Johnny Ross, and Sue Black; three grandchildren, Robert (Ashlee) Price, Jr. of West Jefferson, Cole and Abby Rucker both of London; two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn and Summer Rucker, both of London; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be noon today at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Homer Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Rucker Family Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 8850. A visitation for friends and family will be from 11 a.m.-noon at the funeral home on Tuesday. Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with services. Brian Miller

Brian Keith Miller, born Feb. 10, 1966, the son of the late George J Miller and Maggie (Darrell) Davis, went to be with his dad on Saturday, June 6, 2015. He was the husband of Becky Davis Miller, whom he married Oct. 31, 2008.

Brian was a 1984 graduate of Rock Hill High School and received his bachelor degree in computer science from Ohio University. He was an employee of Dow Chemical. He was an avid hunter and sportsman, as well as a Civil War enthusiast. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting and was a member of Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by son, Jacob (Mikki) Miller of South Point; grandson, Felix Miller of South Point; brothers and sisters, Mike (Alla) Miller, Angie (Jack) DeAutremont, David ( Sara) Miller, Darrell Lee (Sandy) Davis and Lena (Randy) Davis. He also has five uncles, four aunts and nieces and nephews, Jazel (Eli) Kitchen of Kitts Hill “King of the Hill” and soon be great-niece Elaina, Dawn Marie and Sara Miller, Samantha (Rodney) Bostic, Zack (Courtney) Nelson, Big Zack Davis and wife. His special little nephew is Wompus Cat (Whyatt Mannon), nephews, Davie Mannon and Thumper (Waylon Mannon) and special brothers and sisters-in-law, Mouse and Kenny Adkins, Sherri and Nick Mannon, Mandy and Brad Cofer, Dee and Tom Davis and their children.

Brian will be also be missed by many friends and colleagues.

Dorothy Orange

Dorothy Irene Orange, 90, of Proctorville, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at home. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, West Virginia. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. John Gartin

John David Gartin, Sr., 60, of Wurtland, Kentucky, died on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn “Penny” Short Gartin. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Kentucky, with elder Ira Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup County. Military rites will be performed by the Greenbo Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Nancy Hatcher
