John Jenkins Sr.

John Thomas Jenkins, Sr., 60 of Pedro, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at his residence. The Zanesville native was born Oct. 23, 1954, a son of the late Vint “Tack” and Evelyn Jordan Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Corbin Jenkins, whom he married March 12, 1973.

Mr. Jenkins attended Rock Hill High School. He worked in the foundry at a plant in Marion and was a former jailer under Sheriff Howell. He was a member of the Etna Missionary Baptist Church, enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, fishing with his sons and grandchildren and hunting with his sons. He was an avid NASCAR fan, Buckeyes and Reds fan and enjoyed spending time with his bride of 42 years. Not only was he a father to his sons, but also their best friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles “Chalk” Jenkins and June Dale Jenkins; two sisters, Lucille Jenkins and Delpha Bloomfield; five nephews; and one niece.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, John Thomas Jenkins, Jr. of Pedro, Joe (Sharon) Jenkins of Ironton, Daniel Jenkins of Flatwoods, Kentucky, and Steven (Ashley) Jenkins of Scottown; three brothers, Alonzo (Goldie) Jenkins, George (Rosetta) Jenkins, both of Pedro and Clifford (Linda) Jenkins of Ironton; four sisters, Barb (Gord) Bailey, Nancy (Ron) Hall both of Ironton, Hazel (Jack) Donley of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Judy (Donnie) Bailey of Pedro; special brother-in-law, Danny Bloomfield; special sisters-in-law, Hilda Jenkins and Glinda Jenkins Seeley; seven grandchildren, Joseph “Matt” Jenkins, Jr. of Ironton, Jordan Jenkins of Pedro, Steven “Scooter” Jenkins, Jr. of Scottown, Courtney (Brandon) Helms of Ashland, Kentucky, Brittany Jenkins of Pedro, Cierra Jenkins of Ironton, and Laci Jenkins of Scottown.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Greg Frasure officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Alice Williams

Alice Kazee Williams, 79, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died June 9, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Carman Funeral Home, Flatwoods, Kentucky, with pastor Mark McKinney officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, Flatwoods, Kentucky.

 

 

Ruth Kennedy

Ruth (Einink) Kennedy, 96, of Ironton, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, June 5, 2015, in Queen Creek, Arizona. Ruth was born in Birnamwood, Wisconsin, on April 22, 1919, a daughter of the late John Albert and Jeanna (Post) Einink. Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James H. Kennedy, who passed away on Oct. 20, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Berg and Gertrude Yingling.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by five children, Donald Kennedy of Mason, Robert (Mary Lee) Kennedy of Queen Creek, Arizona, Cindy (Jim) Hamrick of Knoxville, Tennessee, John (Margie) Kennedy of Singapore and Martha (Eric) Alfrey of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, Gerry (Shirley) Einink of Chicago, Illinois and Paul (Verna) Einink of Anderson, Indiana; one sister, Marjorie Renner of South Bend, Indiana; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Berg of Hammond, Indiana and Chuck Yingling of Des Moines, Iowa. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, Caroline Kennedy, Mary Ann (Matt) Perry, Sara (Ryan) Crance, Emily (Justin) Ruettinger, Jenny Hamrick, Meredith and Andrew Kennedy, HannahBeth, Abby and Ethan Alfrey. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, all residing in Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and a long-time special friend, Janet Stone.

Ruth was a 1938 graduate of Denver Christian School in Denver, Colorado. She spent many years in the Cedar Lake, Indiana, area and was a resident of Ironton for the past 48 years. Ruth and her husband James were owners of Kennedy Insurance Agency and Kennedy Realty. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Ironton where they were a part of the Love and Fellowship Class. She was active in many women’s Bible studies and missionary circles.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Ironton with Eric Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

Willie Lyons

Willie Lyons, 88, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center, Huntington, West Virginia. There will be no services.
