Special Needs archery events set

The Board of Directors of Special Needs Youth Sportsmen will conduct an archery and shooting event Saturday, June 13, at Lake Vesuvius.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends with a free lunch. for participants and their families around noon.

All participants should meet at the boat ramp parking lot by 9 a.m. for archery instruction session.

All equipment and targets will be provided. However, participants may bring their own equipment if they desire. No archery experience is necessary to be part of the program.

All instructors for the program are experienced archers who volunteer their time for the event.

There is no cost and the event is open to all special needs youth up through age 17.

FMS CheerFest

planned June 15-17

The Fairland Middle School Summer CheerFest will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 15-17 at Jim Mayo Football Stadium. The camp is open to students entering grades 1-6.

Registration fee is $30 per cheerleaders and $50 for siblings if registered in pairs. Camp fee includes T-shirt.

Participants will learn sidelines, floor cheers and a group dance. They will also tumble and stunt among other activities. Prizes will be awarded each day.

Cheerleaders participating are invited to cheer along side of the middle school cheerleaders on Sept. 24 during the first quarter of the Fairland vs. Ironton game.

Gallia plans girls’ basketball camp

The first annual Gallipolis Blue Angels’ basketball exposure camp will be held Monday, July 20, at Gallia Academy High School.

The came is open to female athletes entering grades 10-12 and any unsigned seniors.

Sign-in begins at 9 a.m. Fee is $150 per camper. Forms must be received by July 6.

The camp is designed to showcase players against top competition while being viewed by scouting services and college coaches.

Kiwanis Juniors plan golf tourney

The Gallipolis Kiwanis Juniors will conduct a youth golf tournament at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Cliffside Golf Club, 100 Cliffside Drive, Gallipolis.

Entry fee is $30 for the girls’ open and the 16-18 and 13-15 age divisions who play 18 holes, and $20 for the 11-12 and 10-and-under age divisions who play nine holes.

The girls’ open is for ages 18-and-under.

The boys ages 16-18 and 13-15 will play from the blue tees and girls from the red tees.

Youths ages 10 and under will play from 100, 150 and 200 yards out on par 3s, 4s and 5s, respectively.

Pro shop certificates will be awarded to first, second and third places. Ages 16-18 and 13-15 are $100, $75 and $50 while ages 11-12 are “$60, $40 and $30.
