Albert Cogan

Albert Edward Cogan, 85, of South Point, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus. The Ironton native was born July 24, 1929, a son of the late Louis and Emma Hughes Cogan. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Long Cogan.

Mr. Cogan attended Hanging Rock School and was a member of the Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church in Flatwoods, Kentucky. He was a crane operator for 20 years for the Union Boiler in Nitro, West Virginia, and then partnered with his son in 1976 to run Cogan’s Wrecker Service in South Point, until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Sparks Cogan, who died in 1991; a son, Keith Charles Cogan; a sister, Elizabeth Blagg; three brothers, Walter Cogan, Charlie Cogan and Jake Cogan; and a great-grandson, Seth William Cogan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenny (Diane McKnight) of South Point; a daughter, Karen (John) Cogan Spillman of South Point; a sister, Mary Ferguson of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Sara (Scott) Marie Kerns, Kenny Joe Cogan, and Johnda (Eric) Roseberry; and four great-grandchildren, Danielle Kerns, Kara Kerns, Ray Kerns, and Kenneth Albert “K.C.” Cogan.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Anthony Keaton officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with visitation Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Pamela Miller

Pamela Sue Miller, 56, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born May 18, 1959, the daughter of Dorothy Wright Lancaster of Ironton and the late Jason Lancaster. She is also survived by her husband, Jerry Ray Miller, whom she married March 2, 1978.

Pamela attended the Rock Hill School District and was a homemaker. She was a former custodian for the Rock Hill School District and attended the City Mission Church in Ironton.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kozy Lancaster.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by four children, Eric (Joey) Lancaster, Tonya (Timothy) Malone, Dorothea Dawn Miller and Jerry Ray Miller Jr., all of Ironton; two brothers, Darrell Lancaster and John Kitts, both of Ironton; a sister, Lisa Stone of Lucasville; and 21 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Steven Thoman

Steven A. Thoman, 60, of South Point, died Friday, June 12, 2015. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake. There will be graveside services with military honors at Fairview Cemetery, Galion, on Thursday at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
