2nd person dies in crash

SOUTH POINT — A second occupant in a high-speed chase has died, according to a release form the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Kimoni C. Davis, 20, of Detroit, Michigan, was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center at 1:21 p.m. Monday. A passenger in that car had been pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday morning. That victim’s identify has yet to be determined.

The 2004 Ford Explorer that the two were in was fleeing from Hanging Rock police heading eastbound on U.S. 52.

“The vehicle lost control as it tried to exit onto the 17th Street Bridge o on-ramp,” the release states. “Due to excessive speed, the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway striking an embankment. It then went airborne, overturned striking a utility pole and came to rest in a wooded area.”

The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was travelling in excess of 100 mph at the time of the crash, according to the release.

The crash remains under investigation.
