Mary Thompson

Mary Margaret Thompson, 42, of Ironton, passed away, Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Hospice of Huntington. The Lawrence County native was born May 7, 1973, a daughter of Frances Stapleton of Toledo, and the late Charles Stapleton.

Mary was a 1990 graduate of Ironton High School and was a former employee for Cabletron and the Liebert Corporation.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Bowman; her grandmother, Roberta Laber; her great grandmother, Anna Ball; her grandparents, Mary and Charles Stapleton Sr. and an uncle, Ernest Wagner.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Candace Bowman and Richelle Bowman, both of Portsmouth; her mother, Joyce Sharp of Ironton; two brothers, James Sharp and Mike Sharp, both of Ironton; three sisters,Becky Taylor, Leeann Williams and Samantha Wood, all of Ironton; a stepbrother, Ernest Stapleton of Ironton; a special friend, Jimmy Eadens of Ironton; and an uncle, William Stapleton of Ironton

John Davis

John Phillip Davis, Jr., “Coach Phil Davis” 69, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, July 10, 2015, in Lavalette, West Virginia. Phil is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter Gina; sons, Brian and his wife Jody, Scott and his wife Amanda; grandsons, Chase, Andrew and Corey; and brother, Frederick Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Davis.

Phil was born on April 1, 1946, in Huntington, son of the late John and Helen Davis. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1964 and then attended Marshall University in Huntington. He married Helen Potter, his college sweetheart in 1969. Phil began his career as a teacher and coach of football, wrestling and track at Buffalo High School, where he taught and coached for 20 years. He then became a teacher and coach of the same three sports at Chesapeake High School until he retired in 2011.

Phil’s children remember him as a patient, loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Phil was an accomplished coach who will be missed by generations of players. He was a dedicated man who loved football, wrestling and track but even more so the young men who played for him. He was passionate about the future of his players and students. Phil was also an avid fly-fisherman who loved to teach others to fish as much as he loved fishing tales.

Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with pastor Mitch Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Phil’s life.

Robin Ruggles

Robin Ruggles, 54, of Pedro, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, at his residence. The Ironton native was born June 22, 1961, a son Lena Jo Jenkins Lawton of Pedro and Raymond Ruggles of Newport, Tennessee.

Robin attended Rock Hill and Port Clinton Schools and was a former mechanic for R&R Machine Shop. He enjoyed ginseng hunting, 4-wheeling, music and always wanted to fly an airplane.

In addition to his parents he is survived by brother, John Ruggles of Pedro; brother, Dennis Ruggles of Pedro; brother, Kevin (Bonnie) Ruggles of Newport, Tennessee; brother, Charles “Chuck” (MaryAnn) Ruggles of Newport, Tennessee; sister, Lisa (Darren) Russell of Ironton; sister, Tammy (Kenny) Cooper of Kannapolis, North Carolina; sister, Cheryl Tinsley of Morristown, Tennessee; brother, Scott Ruggles of Morristown, Tennessee; sister, Devon Ruggles of Tampa, Florida; stepmother, Denise Ruggles of Newport, Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Sizemore and Brother Gerald Ruggles officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery and visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Tony Craig

Tony Wayne “T.J.” Craig, Jr., 30, of Patriot, died Thursday, July 9, 2015. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville by Bishop James Davis. Alban Ivan Talbert, 68, of South Point, died Friday, July 10, 2015, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home.
