Star Lite 4-Hers take grand, reserve lamb awards

ROME TOWNSHIP — The third time was the charm for Luke Leith.

The 12-year-old Star Lite 4-Her took the grand champion award at Tuesday’s market lamb show. Leith said it was his third year showing lambs.

“It’s feels good,” he said of the win. “I didn’t think mine were that good this year.”

The judge — Bob Hare of Winchester — disagreed.

Hare said while Leith’s lamb was a bit smaller than he would prefer, it was a complete animal compared to the rest.

“It was the most complete lamb I’ve seen today,” Hare said. “I really like the way he was made. It handled firm and had a nice rack and hip. I really like a complete animal.”

Bringing home the reserve champion award was 17-year-old Parker Rowe. He is also a member of Star Lite.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Rowe said.

This was Rowe’s second year showing lambs. He won the grand champion award last year after about eight years of showing goats.

“Lambs are more of a challenge actually,” he said. “I like showing them.”

His love for showing lambs also paid off in the showmanship competition, where he took second in his class in the senior division.
