Freida Haynes

Freida J. Haynes, 93, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at the Trinity Station Retirement Community. Freida was the daughter of Chillo and William Edwards from Culloden, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Haynes; and her daughter, Karen Evans, of Pedro; also by a special daughter-in-law, Ann Haynes. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters and one brother, Jewel Burdette, Mae Salyers, Lesta Burdette and William Edwards.

Freida was a member of the Church of Christ at 10th and Vine streets, where she attended for 60 years.

She is survived by five sons, Darwin (Linda) Haynes, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Alan (Edith) Haynes, of Ironton, Delmar (Sally) Haynes, of Streetsboro, Rick (Ann) Haynes of Ironton, and Bill (Trena) Haynes, of Ironton; and a daughter, Sheila (Allyn) Vass, of Ironton. She had seven children, 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ at 10th and Vine streets, Ironton, with ministers Todd Parsley of Centerville and Jason Ridgeway officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Donations in her honor, in lieu of flowers can be made to the Church of Christ Food Pantry, 10th and Vine streets, Ironton, OH 45638. Joseph Elswick

Joseph “Bub” Elswick, 62, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Hospice of Huntington. The Baltimore native was born April 27, 1953, the son of the late Joseph Elswick and Josephine “Dee” Eaches Elswick. Joseph was of the Baptist faith and loved playing guitar and fishing. He greatly enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Richendollar Elswick, whom he married Jan. 23, 1999.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Alberta Noble; sister, Ruth Hopkins; sister, Mary “Red” Bosley; sister, Jean Stein; sister, Joannaley Eaches; stepbrother, Kenny Elswick; uncle, Tom Elswick; and uncle, Harrison Elswick.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Joe Edwin Elswick; sister, Barbara Richendollar; nieces, Billie (Albert II) Thibodaux, and Jeannie (Robert Blevins) Faulkner Madden; nephews, Ronnie Faulkner, Johnnie Richendollar and Tim Stein; great-nieces and great-nephews, Anna (Mark) Harmon, Ashley (Shawn White) Thibodaux, Albert Thibodaux III, Greg Richendollar, Hunter Logan Goins, Harley Ann Goins, Abigail Sexton, Lynda Richendollar, Jodi (Chris Dickerson) Blevins, Jerry Blevins, Ronnie Faulkner, Emily Blevins, Jaylen Richendollar, Kylin Richendollar and Bentley Richendollar; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Chase Dickerson, Christopher Dickerson, Prestyn Harmon, Luke White.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Charles Yates

Charles L. Yates, 80, of Coal Grove, passed away on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at Sunset Nursing Center, Coal Grove. He was born May 9, 1935, in Shelbiana, Kentucky, a son of the late William McKinley Yates and Cora Childers Yates.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Rist and two brothers, Edsel Yates and Rex Yates. Charles was retired with 37 years of service from C & O Railroad as a conductor. He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church, former owner of Hetty’s Lunch in Coal Grove, an employee with the Lawrence County Engineer and the owner of C.L.’s Barber Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Cope Yates; five children, Jackie (Ronnie) Jenkins, Bambi (Bernie) Yates Hensley, Charles “Chuck” (Sharon) Yates, Jr., Melissa “Missy” (Kevin) Yates Jenkins and Robert “Mac” Yates; a sister, Billie Morris; a sister-in-law, Shirley Yates; 11 grandchildren, Jeff Shuff, Derek (Jessi) Newman, Amelia Newman, Morgan (Rusty) Yaniko, Caleb Newman, Casey Newman, Corey Newman, Nicholas Yates, Alyssa Bare, Rachel Osborne and Garrin Yates; six great-grandchildren, Lexi, Koen, Cash, Ryder, Austin and Taryn; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services will be noon today at Zoar Baptist Church, Coal Grove with pastor Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Condolences may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
