Free lunch program helps all

There are many children in Lawrence County who don’t get enough to eat at home, which leaves their school lunches as their primary source of nutrition — if they can afford it.
Eligible students can qualify for reduced-price lunches if their parents fill out the proper paperwork, but still, some children are underserved their most basic nutritional needs.
Thankfully, three school districts in Lawrence County — Rock Hill, Symmes Valley and South Point — starting this year will offer free breakfast and lunches to all students.
This is great news for parents who struggle to find enough money to put food on their own tables at home. Ensuring children get enough to eat should not be a financial burden for families.
These free meals for all students will also take the stigma of free and reduced lunches away from the children who may have been embarrassed by their economic background.
Allowing all children to eat for free guarantees students won’t have to worry about how to pay for their food so they can concentrate on what’s most important — learning.
