When it comes to balancing a healthy lifestyle with the busyness of daily life, the Be Your Own Health Champion Email Challenge offered through the Ohio State University Extension aims to make it easier to achieve that balance.

“This is a way that we can get educational information out and people don’t have to come out to a meeting,” said Treva Williams, OSU extension educator for family and consumer sciences. “We do it through email because people are busy.”

The health challenge offers participants the opportunity to learn about making healthy choices. Using a health log, participants keep tabs on the progress they are making for their health challenge.

“You set your own goals,” said Williams. “You get that gentle nudge (through the challenge).”

Each week participants will receive two emails with a motivational message to encourage them to continue the challenge and messages will provide health tips.

“Everything we put out in the email…(is) all research-based,” said Williams.

The health challenge is a way to encourage people not to be sidetracked.

“All of us need a little extra motivation,” said Williams.

The health challenge lasts for six weeks and individuals interested in participating can go online to sign up for the challenge that begins Aug. 31 and ends Oct. 11. There is no cost to participate in the challenge.
