Ironton golfers pick up 5-team golf match win

PINE GROVE — Maybe he should change his name to WISE-garber.

Mitchell Weisgarber played a smart round of golf as he helped lead the Ironton Fighting Tigers to a five-team golf match win on Monday.

Weisgarber shot a 41 while teammate Chandler Dodson was just one shot back as Ironton posted a 173 score at the Ironton Country Club.

The Coal Grove Hornets were next at 185 followed by Fairview (Ky.) with a 197, the Rock Hill Redmen at 211 and the St. Joseph Flyers had a 219.

Cory Rawlins was next at 44, Mason Slagel shot a 46 and Trevor Hacker carded a 55 for Ironton.

Trevor Deere also shot a 41 to pace Coal Grove. Alex Gillette was next with a 45, Ryan Malone shot a 48 while Ethan Wilson had a 51 and Jed Whitworth a 56.

Fairview’s Colby Hill took medalist honors with a 38.

Chase VanHoose followed with a 52, Aaron Donathan 53, Tanner Manning 54 and Hunter Adams 59 for the Eagles.

Logan Reed fired a 39 to lead Rock Hill. Jason Haywood had a 55, Chase Nelson 57, Austin Riddle 60 and Kylie Noel had a 65.

James Carter led St. Joseph with a 49 and Zac McGraw was one shot back at 50. Chase Walters carded a 53 and Isaac Walker had a 67.

Ironton was at South Point (Sugarwood) on Tuesday and visits Fairview (Sandy Creek) on Thursday.
