ATHENS — The St. Joseph Female Flyers wanted to play a bigger school with a good program.
They did.
The Female Flyers took on Division II Athens on Saturday and suffered a 3-0 soccer loss.
“This was by far the most difficult opponent we’ve faced this year. Athens is very solid at all positions. They play great team soccer and controlled possession,” said St. Joseph coach Kyle Weatherholt.
Athens scored two goals on nice shots from outside the box within the first 20 minutes.
The Lady Bulldogs third goal came at the 63rd minute.
“Our back line had to work hard the entire half. Megan Riley, Natalie Heaberlin, and Ivie Hopkins played well along with goalkeepers Karly Young and Ashley Bartram to prevent them from scoring more,” said Weatherholt.
St. Joseph hosts South Point at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
