Derek Clark

Oct. 8, 1981—Sept. 6, 2015

Derek C. Clark, 33, of South Point, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at his residence. He was born Oct. 8, 1981, in Ironton, son of Michael D. and Angela D. Moore Clark. Derek graduated from Berne Union High School in Sugar Grove and Collins Career Center as an electrician. He was a former employee of Big Sandy Superstore. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Ann Mason Clark; son, Carson James Clark; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Ann Moore, of South Point; brother, Zachary Clark, of South Point; and very best friend, Jay Solenbarger, of Lancaster. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with pastor Paul Michael Booth officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Charles Ross

Oct. 10, 1958—Sept. 5, 2015

Charles William Ross, Jr., 56, of Kitts Hill, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at his home. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 10, 1958, a son of the late Charles Wesley Ross and Chloa Etta Harbolt Ross.

Charles was a self-employed jack of all trades. He was also a farmer who loved his animals, loved hunting deer, raccoons and going fishing. He was a member of Mt. Olive Community Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Betty Jo Marcum and Isaac Marcum; and a sister, Brenda Sue Carter.

He is survived by three daughters, Angie (Kenny) Cade, of Willow Wood, obbie (Mark) Nash, of Ironton, and Billie Jo (Patrick) Marcum, of South Point; a son, Billy (Becky) Ross, of Kitts Hill; five brothers, Abby (Belinda Spillman) Ross, Ronnie (Patty Schwab) Ross, Dewayne (Patty) Ross, all of Ironton, Tom Ross of Patriot, and Donnie (Patty) Ross, of Arabia; a sister, Chrystal Gail (David) Stapleton, of Ironton; six grandchildren, Buddy (Natoshia) Malone Jr., Sattin (Cole Bocook) Malone, Emily Nance, Robert Nance, Andrea Nash, and Patrick Marcum Jr.; two great grandchildren, Buddy Malone III and Koleton Malone; his ex-wife, Garnet Ross of Kitts Hill; his care takers and friends, Linda Sizemore and Ilva White, both of Kitts Hill; and several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Mt. Olive Community Church with the Rev. Willard Blankenship and Rev. Kenny Jiles officiating. Burial will follow in Wilgus Fairview Cemetery and visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home and Friday from noon until the time of the service at the church.  Lillian Brown

Lillian “Sue” Joaon Brown, 83 of Raceland, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2015, at home. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Huffman Family Cemetery on Route 207 in Argillite. There will be no visitation. Brenda J. Smith, 67, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. A celebration of life service will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at New Hope United Methodist Church, Proctorville, with pastor Dwayne Shugert officiating.
