Lady Pointers go to the limit in loss

PORTSMOUTH — The South Point Lady Pointers were on the verge of an upset only to fall just short.

The Lady Pointers took the defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Portsmouth Lady Trojans five sets before losing in a league volleyball game.

Portsmouth won 15-25, 25-19, 20-25, 26-24 and 15-9.

“I was really proud of how hard the girls fought tonight. They showed a lot of heart,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Allen Perry.

Olivia Abner led the Lady Pointers with a career-high 17 kills. She also had 3 blocks.

Selena Marcum had a strong night serving as she recorded 7 aces. Leah Lawson had 14 digs to lead the defense.

In the reserve match, South Point won 25-22, 25-23.

South Point hosts St. Joseph and Cross Lanes Christian in a tri-match on Thursday.
