The St. Joseph Female Flyers are starting to turn up the heat and they’re trying to heat up quickly.

The Female Flyers turned up the defense heat on the Fairland Lady Dragons on Saturday as they posted a 7-0 soccer win.

“Today was a great example of how great defense can lead to offense. We’ve been working on putting teams under pressure faster,” said St. Joseph coach Kyle Weatherholt.

“Our holding midfielders Megan Riley and Ivie Hopkins were outstanding today. Every time Fairland got the ball across the halfway line, Ivie and Megan were there to intervene. That frees up Kaylee Sheridan to stay forward more and dictate the play on the attacking side.”

Sheridan used her freedom to score two goals and register two assists. Lynsey Booker also had two goals and two assists.

Ophelia Weatherholt, Megan Saxby and Sydney Wain all added goals with Emma Saxby having two assists and Weatherholt one.

“Sydney Wain put in her typical hard work running up and down the win and I was glad to see her on the score sheet,” said coach Weatherholt.

“Fairland is a very good team as they showed a few weeks ago when we narrowly escape their field with a 4-3 win. Today was very different. The girls really stepped it up and put in our most complete performance of the season.”

St. Joseph hosts Waverly at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
