Not every story has a happy ending.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ tennis team battled to the end trying for a successful Senior Night, but the Portsmouth Lady Trojans managed a 3-2 win to spoil the effort.

Ironton’s Aleigha Justice won the No. 1 singles match and remained unbeaten on the regular season. The doubles team of Holly Bruce and Sophia Caines posted the Lady Tigers other win.

The match was tied 2-2 when Ironton’s doubles team of Kylie Barcus — the team’s lone senior — and Kara Spencer were tie 1-1 with Portsmouth.

The Lady Trojans team managed to win the set and give them the match.

Ironton closes out the regular season at Wheelersburg on Tuesday and begins sectional tournament play next Tuesday, Sept. 29.
