On Wednesday morning the Ironton Fire Department swore in Darryl Fogleson, a veteran firefighter, as a lieutenant with the department.

Fogleson served as a fireman in the U.S. Air Force before joining the IFD as a firefighter. Before being promoted on Wednesday, Fogleson, who said he had to complete a test before being promoted to lieutenant, served as a firefighter for 20 years with the IFD.

As a lieutenant Fogleson will be responsible for driving fire trucks and assuming responsibilities of the captain when the captain is off-duty.

Fogleson said that he is pleased with the promotion.

“I am excited about it,” said Fogleson.
